Costa Rica NatureAir – Kids Fly Free – Flying Tips

Natural Air

NaturalAir new eco look and carbon neutral planes are now offering a Kids Fly Free program.

Getting around Costa Rica can be a pain in the ass when taking land transportation, like renting a car or any type of bus, either public, shuttle or private. When one vacations, just traveling from San Jose to Jaco (the closest beach) the 1 1/2 hr drive can be a full day of adventure, but more likely, stressful,  due to traffic and weather conditions … so flying is the way to go to allow more time for vacationing.

There are two puddle jumper air services SANSA and NatureAir. By law, no carrier, commercial or charter, can fly after dark in Costa Rica and has one of the safest flying records in the world.   And with tourism down as much as 80% in some areas, the competition for those tourist dollars has increased. So, NaturalAir went on a massive advertisement campaign  on their new eco hype of carbon neutral engines, complete with eco-painted planes.

Costa Rica’s Los Suenos Marina – Fishing Hot!

Nice sailfish caught

Nice sailfish caught by Rich Scussell out of Costa Rica's Los Suenos Marina

Even though I’m not the youngest guy on the block, I can still come up with some nifty high-tech ideas to promote the captains we work with, fishing in Costa Rica in general — and naturally, my Fish Costa Rica and Americana Sportfishing companies. It’s happening on Twitter where we now upload Costa Rica Fishing Reports by the hour and day.

Up to the hour/day Twitter fishing reports from our Captains

Repeat client Rick Scussell was here in-mid July to fish a half day inshore with Captain Oli Siquiera on the 27-foot Magalita and then a full day offshore with Captain Jerry on the 26-foot Predator, both boats out of Los Sueños Marina

He wrote me just before sending these photos: “Best yet, caught and released a big sail. Jerry is great, wants to book for March.” Rick has pushed his Costa Rica fishing trip a bit forward since he wrote that: he’ll be fishing two days on the Predator in February when the world-class sail bite off the Central Pacific coast (Quepos and Jaco/Los Sueños) should be at its peak.

Costa Rica Biofuels – ICE vs RECOPE

Costa Rica's Palm Oil Industry can bring in $12,000 a acre.

Costa Rica's Palm Oil Industry can bring in $10,000 a acre.

Last month an interesting ecology deal was proposed. New Generation Biofuels Holdings, Inc.,  signed a letter of intent with the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE or Costa Rica dominant monopoly on utilities, like electrical, internet, and phone service) to start testing  biofuels for power generation in the Central American country. It seems logical, Costa Rica known for being a founding father in ecotourism, conservation, and biodiversity; this just might be another feather in the cap of ecology.

Under the terms of the letter of intent, ICE, will evaluate New Generation’s biofuels, leading ultimately to the potential licensing of New Generation’s technology and to the construction of biofuel production plants in Costa Rica for use in its electric generation plants. Obviously the construction part will help provide jobs in both the building and general labor for daily operation.

New Generation, initially (according to the letter of intent) will first start testing at their production facility located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Buying Property In Costa Rica – Taxes, Capital Gains, Corporation

Anyone can buy property in Costa Rica. Anyone can become a real estate agent

Anyone can buy property in Costa Rica. Anyone can become a real estate agent

The cool thing about Costa Rica, a foreigner can buy real estate and pass that title down, unlike Mexico where foreigner can only lease, and cannot  buy, which as caused numerous disputes when titles suddenly change and/or were fraudulently made.

The best way to buy real estate is set up a anonymous corporation instead of putting the property in an individual name. You will need a good attorney. Ownership of recordable assets, such as real estate and motor vehicles, is now the main purpose of most of Costa Rica’s registered corporations (S.A.). This method of “indirect” possession is the most highly recommended means of managing recordable assets.

The advantages of having one’s real estate owned by a S.A. rather than held in an individual’s name are:

  • An anonymous corporation, as the name indicates, provides a measure of privacy for its owner(s). It will be difficult to obtain information about who owns the shares, providing the discretion which many foreign investors desire.
  • Personal liabilities are reduced by having your assets registered under individual Costa Rican corporations.

Medical Tourism in Costa Rica – Wellness, Rehab, Surgery

Medical Tourism in Costa Rica will increase by 20% by the 2010

Medical Tourism in Costa Rica should increase by 20% by the 2010

The other day, an question was asked in Yahoo answers, “Why is everybody wearing nurse scrubs?” Adding sarcastically, “God you can’t tell me that every single person in this country wants to be in the medical field.”

First, I’m, proud to say, every answer was something like this, “The medical industry is one of very few industries actually growing during the recession” or “Powerful professions in the country are nurse, dentist, physic therapy, doctors” or “Medicine is a strong field in the country” and our answer was, “CR is becoming an acclaimed place for wellness, rehab, dental work, minor and plastic surgery …  so the demand for medical profession has increased … etc”

It is to hard to projected what the true estimates are for medical tourism, but figures indicate that by the year 2010, Medical Tourism will increased to 150,000 plus visitors per year, this will be an increase of almost 20% from the year 2008. By late 2010, it is estimated that as many as 15-20% who vacation in Costa Rica, will be going there for medical tourism. So despite the economic crisis people in need of operations, medical checkups and other medical services continue to come to Costa Rica.
