Your pet may be put into one of these pet containers for the flight to Costa Rica.

Okay want to take your pet to Costa Rica?  In reality it is fairly simple and Costa Rica does not require a quarantine period as many countries do.  For dogs and cats and other small pets,  all you need to  prove to both the airlines and Costa Rican customs officers that your animal is healthy.

First, your dog or cat must be taken to a local veterinarian for a complete examination. This should be done a minimum of two weeks before departure.  The animal must be free from all infectious and/or contagious diseases, including rabies (the rabies shot must be no sooner than 30 days prior to departure and no later than 1 year).

The examination report must also identify the animals name, specie, breed, sex, color and name, in addition to the owners name and address. This examination report (health certificate) must be on business letterhead and signed by the veterinarian. The health certificate must also include that the animal has been vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus.

Since the internet is becoming more available to Costa Ricans so have the S & S’s (scammers and spammers), as we wrote about how Costa Rica’s internet fraud has increase.

One of the things S & S’ers like is to target ones problems (like money) and claim they can help clear it up. In this case, it is a lottery scam, claiming winners will receive a Visa to the U.S. In other words, Internet spammers are using the U.S. green card lottery as a ploy to make money.

A typical mailing tells a recipient that he or she is a winner in the U.S. Visa Lottery Program and asks them to fill out personal information, like passport number, telephone and in some cases banking info. -  either way, they can also use that personal information for ID thief.

The scam email looks official and claims it is in partnership with the U.S lottery program and it even comes flaunting the Seal of the United States of America. The spammer’s initial request is somewhat appealing starting with $750 processing fee for an individual and $1,100 for a family.

The ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will meet with President Óscar Arias

With China investing heavily in Costa Rica in the last few years, it appears that the Middle East country of Qatar may be taking an investment  interest in Costa Rica also.

The ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, is now in Costa Rica and staying at, The Four Seasons on the Papagayo peninsula. The hotel’s ownership is heavily Saudi Arabian and it is the place for those with Muslim royalty stay.

Last September at the United Nations, President Óscar Arias and the emir got together. It is evident that their talks focused on the needs of Costa Rica and not just a social chat.

But what are those needs? Another perspective customer for oil and or gas, which is choking Costa Rican’s with the high cost of it. Prices of Costa Rica gas have been a roller coaster ride since the beginning of 2009.

Qatar is a member of the Organization of the Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC) and is a significant oil producer. The Qatari government has devoted more resources recently to the development of natural gas, particularly for export as liquefied natural gas (LNG). Qatar is the world’s largest supplier of LNG.

Costa Rica Internet Fraud is Rising as more and more users learn how to use the Internet.

I got an panic email last Saturday about a small Costa Rica online store whose owner got scammed when she went to buy a product and was taken to a phishing website. She elected to pay by e-check, her second biggest mistake. Within seconds her account was cleaned out of several hundred dollars.

She asked me what we could do to get her money back? I  was sorry to say,  “Nothing.” Adding, all she could really do was report it.

As ICE gets more modern and with the Free Trade Agreement that has allowed more completion for ICE,  Internet viewing has become more available to the everyday locals. With that said, the rise of Internet Fraud has increased 100%  within the  last six months.

The term “Internet fraud” generally refers to any type of fraud scheme that uses one or more online services to present fraudulent solicitations to prospective victims, to conduct fraudulent transactions, or to transmit the proceeds of fraud to financial institutions or to others connected with the scheme. Internet fraud can take place on computer programs such as chat rooms, e-mail, message boards, or Web sites; in the ladies case, a product website.

All proceeds from the tournament will go to The Billfish Foundation to support their conservation efforts in Costa Rica.

Back in April, 2006 in Playa Carillo, Costa Rica twenty seven anglers kicked off of the Tenth Anniversary Season of the Presidential Challenge of Central America Conservation Series. The Fishing Tournament was design to help conserve and protect Costa Rica’s Sportsfishing industry.

It has been a long battle to protect Costa Rica’s sport fishing of billfish, and no one knows that more than The Billfish Foundation (TBA), who for years have been fighting to protect one of Costa Rica most valuable resources.

For the last 2 years the TBA (The Billfish Foundation) has had a major struggle. But things have been slowly but surly coming together with the  ban on exporting billfish meat and, Costa Ricas catch and release program, and most recently,  the monitoring of commercial boats.

Like all conservation organizations and programs, money is always  in demand. So this years Presidential Challenge of Costa Rica, all proceeds from the tournament will go to The Billfish Foundation to support their conservation efforts in Costa Rica.
