COSTA RICA PROVINCE OF PUNTARENAS
Puntarenas stretches along two-thirds of the country's Pacific coast to the southern border with Panama. The ever popular Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most beautiful in the country, and a Central Pacific paradise. The dense rich green jungle of Corcovado National Park stands as an unspoiled showcase of tropical nature.
The private Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the richest in the world. Carara Biological Reserve protects a transitional zone and harbors an incredible variety of wildlife including the largest population in the country of the endangered scarlet macaw.
Beside, Puntarenas numerous beach cities, it also hosts several annual festivals, the biggest of which is Carnival. This ten days of music, dancing, cultural and sporting attracts a huge crowd during the festivities celebrated every February or March.
Other carnival include, Festejos Populares held in November and boasts parades, music and carnivals. The Virgin of the Sea Festival, in July, features a colorful fishing-boat regatta where fishermen honor the Virgin in hopes of another safe year at sea. Some of the most popular or touristy towns are Jaco, Quepos and Manuel Antonio.
