Back in April, 2006 in Playa Carillo, Costa Rica twenty seven anglers kicked off of the Tenth Anniversary Season of the Presidential Challenge of Central America Conservation Series. The Fishing Tournament was design to help conserve and protect Costa Rica’s Sportsfishing industry.
It has been a long battle to protect Costa Rica’s sport fishing of billfish, and no one knows that more than The Billfish Foundation (TBA), who for years have been fighting to protect one of Costa Rica most valuable resources.
For the last 2 years the TBA (The Billfish Foundation) has had a major struggle. But things have been slowly but surly coming together with the ban on exporting billfish meat and, Costa Ricas catch and release program, and most recently, the monitoring of commercial boats.
Like all conservation organizations and programs, money is always in demand. So this years Presidential Challenge of Costa Rica, all proceeds from the tournament will go to The Billfish Foundation to support their conservation efforts in Costa Rica.
The tournament is scheduled for March 5,6 and 7, 2010 which coincides perfectly with the height of the billfishing season off Costa Rica Northern Pacific, offering anglers the ultimate in light-tackle angling in a tournament setting that’s highly competitive both on a team and individual angler basis.
This year’s event is once again hosted by the Villas Playa Samara, offering comfortable rooms situated just steps away from the beach and spacious freshwater pool complete with swim-up bar. The event kicks off March 4th with registration and a mandatory angler’s meeting with complimentary cocktails supplied by Bacardi.
Fishing will commence on March 5th with drinks and dinner to follow at Cas Vela, the private home of tournament coordinator Joan Vernon. March 6th is the second day of the tournament with a Bacardi Bash immediately afterward, with March 7th being the third and final day of competition. There’s another Bacardi Bash with the awards dinner and presentation that evening.
Hummm … Bacardi is taking a nice interest.
