Costa Rica productions companies are no strangers to movies, and have a ton of resumes to prove it – probably the most well-known film, filmed in the country, was author Michael Crichton best seller thriller, “Congo,” which to me was one of the best books I have ever read.
And Costa Rica is no stranger to gambling, a country where it is legal and after the crackdown on online betting in the US, sports bookies and casinos opened up internet betting sites faster then one could pour coins in slots.
And with the Reality Show, “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here,” staring Patti Blogojevich, the wife of ousted governor of Illinois, again Costa Rica continues to find their spot in Hollywood.
Spot in Hollywood? Hummmm – according to Hollywood, a future blockbuster thriller is schedule to be filmed in CR, staring heart-throb actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Yeah yeah, you guess it, the film is about the reality underworld of what is one of Costa Rica best businesses, poker, casino and offshore sports betting.
Hummm … couldn’t think of a better location considering Costa Rica leads the world in offshore/inshore betting with mega-betting houses like Bodog and BetUS.
Now according to the tabloids, this project is from the writers of “Ocean’s Thirteen” (staring Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, George Clooney) working together with DiCaprio and Paramount Pictures. Supposedly this is similar with the movie “Rounders,” which starred Edward Norton and Matt Damon as high-stakes players in the underground poker scene.
A report by CBS News program “60 Minutes” identified the offices of the sites as being located in a “strip mall,” which maybe in San Jose … which makes sense since San Jose is the capital of online gambling. However, local rumor (which makes more sense) it will be in Santa Ana, a more upscale area that has many Forbes 500 satellite companies.
No release date, location or even title has been set yet … but we will try and keep all you Ticas posted so you can drool over Mr. DiCaprio.
